Potential Consequences/Impact of Speech Impairment May Include

  • Difficulty expressing needs/wants or routine information intelligibly

  • Difficulty communicating intelligibly in order to function at level of independence expected for age

  • Difficulty achieving adequate intelligible speech to reach educational potential

 

Speech difficulties that may warrant a Speech Evaluation

  • Deomonstrates difficulty being  understood by family and/or caregivers

  • Deomonstrates difficulty correctly producing specific speech sounds

  • Becomes frustrated when not understood

  • Demonstrates difficulty communicating with same aged peers
